Imtiaz Qureshi was born on February 2, 1929 as the fifth son to Murad Ali and Sakina Qureshi, growing up in a family of nine boys and two girls and his ancestors were butchers and cooks to the Awadhi nobility for over 200 years; his maternal grandfather had worked for the Raja of Mehmoodabad and his paternal grandfather and father for the Raja of Jahangirabad. The name of his wife isn’t known.

He has five sons and two daughters, Aisha Qureshi, Ishtiyaque Qureshi, Ashfaque Qureshi, Irfan Qureshi, Yasmin Qureshi, Imran Qureshi & Muhammad Ahsan Ali Qureshi who are also in the culinary business and have restaurants in India and abroad.

The restaurant Namak Mandi is run by chef Imtiaz Qureshi’s sons, Ahsan, Ashfaque and Irfan, along with a family friend, Mayank, the place pays tribute to the legacy of Dum Pukht while keeping things fresh and interesting.
