Changpeng Zhao biography
Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ, is a Chinese-born Canadian businessman who was born in 1977 in Jiangsu, China. When he was about 12 years old, Changpeng immigrated with his family to Canada in the late 1980s. The family settled down in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Both Changpeng’s parents worked as schoolteachers back in China. Aside from being a businessman, CZ is also an investor, a software engineer, and now a convicted money launderer. He is mostly renowned as the co-founder and former CEO of Binance, which is the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
According to a Reuters investigative story about Binance, Zhao had a relationship with former Chinese travel television show host and Binance co-founder Yi He for several years and they have two children, including a son born in the United States. He hasn’t officially said anything about his marital status though.

Zhao obtained his education from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where he majored in computer science.

He is, unsurprisingly, one of the richest people in the world, and although his wealth took a hit after the crypto market sank, Zhao still ranks among the 600 richest people in the world. Since most of his earnings come from Binance, CZ’s net worth can fluctuate dramatically due to the volatile nature of the cryptocurrency market. Moreover, the exact value of his holdings and assets is not publicly available.
However, Bloomberg’s rich list includes Changpeng Zhao among the top three financial billionaires globally, stating estimate figures of $28.2 billion. However, Zhao has openly denied these staggering numbers.

Zhao bought his first luxury property in the form of ‘pro-crypto’ Dubai, an apartment in Dubai’s glamorous Jumeirah district, back in October of 2021. The property is located very close to Burj Khalifa. Besides this, Zhao also purchased a mansion in the city, which is estimated to be worth around $2.8 million.
Investments
Changpeng Zhao launched Binance back in 2017 before gradually building it into one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges. Despite the crash in the price of Binance coin, it still remains one of the most profitable companies. Moreover, his company invested in a rival company named FTX back in 2019. Around 2021, the company cashed out its equity for a whopping $2.1 billion payout.
