Father Hilarion Heagy changed his name to Said Abdul Latif as he embarrassed Islam. He claims to have been inclined towards Islam nearly 20 years ago. However, it took a while for him to publicly accept the religion.
He said in his blog that “one simply canโt be a priest or monk publicly and a Muslim privately. “He had his primordial faith in the religion.”
According to a news outlet, Father Hilarion Heagy’s conversion was a reversion to Islam. He justified his conversion with a quote from the Quran.ย
He wrote in his blog post that since deciding to become a Muslim, he has been experiencing “calm, joy, and comfort” that “has finally guided me home.”
Hilarion Heagy Was A Russian Orthodox Monk
Heagy was formerly a Russian Orthodox monk who had earned the admiration of his followers for being compassionate, pious, and extraordinarily patient.
He joined the Antiochian Orthodox Church in the early 2003s and later left to join the Eastern Catholic Church in 2017. After completing his studies at St. Nazianz’s Holy Resurrection Monastery, he was ordained as a Byzantine Catholic priest-monk. Since then, he has converted to Islam.
Twitterโs Reaction To Abandoning Christianityย
In response to the blog post, Catholic.com published an article recently titled “Sad Journey of the Muslim Priest.” Social media users responded differently to the former priest’s decision to convert to Islam, with some Muslims praising him and others criticising him for “apostatizing.”
The former Christian priest’s conversion has generated a lot of buzz on Twitter as well.
Only Muslim’s rejoiced his conversion by leaving Christianity.
Heagy claimed that since he revealed the news of his conversion to Islam, Muslims have been sending him emotional letters.
Father Hilarion Heagy stated that he has been getting calls and messages from individuals all over the world asking him why he abandoned Christianity and turned to Islam. A list of references that he found useful in making this choice was also provided.ย
He said, “The future is uncertain for me. There are always fears when you take a leap into the dark. “And yet, I feel such a peace.”
