Joe Gow, the chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, was fired by the UW Board of Regents on Wednesday night after it was discovered that several recordings of him and his wife, Carmen Wilson, had been posted to p*rn*graphic websites in recent months.
Gow, 63, has stated that he has no remorse for the obscene videos and other content that he and Wilson produced together. Gow claims that after discussing it, they decided to be “more open” about the lives that they had previously chosen to keep concealed. He questioned if his dismissal was illegal due to his free speech.
However, in his defence, Gow said that whatever he or his wife or them as a couple did, they did as citizens in the United States, who had the freedom of the First Amendment to the Constitution, to create and publish books and videos that explore consensual adult s*xuality.
Who is Carmen Wilson, the spouse of Joe Gow?
Wilson, 56, worked mostly in the psychology department for around 15 years at UW-La Crosse, beginning in 1996. Iowa State University awarded her a PhD in counselling psychology. From 2016 until 2019, she served as the vice president for academic affairs and provost at Dickinson State University in North Dakota. She was a finalist for Southwest Minnesota State University’s president in 2019.
Wilson and Gow tied the knot on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco in June 2014; the occasion was covered by the UW-La Crosse press team. Wilson’s contract described him as Gow’s spouse and as an associate to the chancellor, which is the official unpaid position that supports the chancellor’s leadership role in representing the institution to the public.
Wilson and Gow use the account name “S*xy Happy Couple” to feature in videos on multiple p*rn websites. At least two social media profiles also use this alias to promote their videos. In the videos, the couple prepares vegan meals alongside famous adult actors. The duo says, “Visit our LF and OF sites for fully explicit scenes!” on their X, formerly Twitter, account.
In videos, Carmen Wilson and her spouse, Joe Gow, can be seen cooking vegan meals alongside adult film stars. In 2018, the university paid adult film star Nina Hartley $5,000 for a ninety-minute speech in which she told students that it’s “OK to like p*rn.” This gave rise to controversy.

Dr Gow stated in a phone conversation with AP that he never made reference to the institution or his involvement in any of the films, and he contended that his termination was an infringement on his right to free speech. He said the regents are leaping to conclusions. Their adherence to the First Amendment and free expression is definitely lacking.
Dr. Gow said that he was never given the opportunity to make his case during a hearing and that the regents had failed to identify the specific policy he had broken. He’s thinking of filing a lawsuit now. Dr. Gow stated, “I received an email last night stating I was fired.” “I wish I could have had a hearing opportunity. Reasonable people get calmer when they comprehend what my spouse and I are making.”
The couple also penned two books under pseudonyms, “Married with Benefits: Our Real-Life Adult Industry Adventures” and “Monogamy with Benefits: How P*rn Enriches Our Relationship,” on their experiences in the adult film industry.
