Carlee Russell called 911 at about 9:35 p.m. Thursday night after seeing a child walking on the side of I-459 South in Hoover, a suburb of Birmingham. Since then, she has reportedly gone missing.
In addition to calling relatives “with the same details,” Russell reportedly made a stop along the interstate to check on the child.
The phone connection remained open, but her relatives later lost contact with her, according to the authorities. Police found Russell’s car and possessions when they arrived, but they couldn’t find her or a child nearby. Their disappearance prompted an investigation into her disappearance, garnering widespread media interest. Russell did not contact her family for around two days.
Carlee Rusell Returns Home
In response to a complaint that Russell had returned to her home around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, Hoover police arrived “to investigate this latest development in the case,” the department stated in a statement to Newsweek on Sunday.
According to the police statement, Hoover Fire medics also responded to evaluate Russell and ultimately brought her to The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) hospital for assessment.
The police obtained Russell’s original statement, which will be used in the investigation.
According to the police, they are attempting to determine Russell’s whereabouts before she went missing. She left Birmingham for work at around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday and placed a delivery order for dinner from a nearby restaurant.
The Investigating Operation To Search Carlee Russell
After she called 911, no one was able to find her or the child who was with her. According to the statement, investigators are also reviewing the traffic camera footage that was retrieved and showed the incident. Although further information was not immediately available.
Officers found her wig, cell phone, and handbag in the road close to her vehicle as they got on the scene.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Thomas Simmons, Russell’s boyfriend, said that Russell was “fighting for her life” when she vanished.
He said, “At this time, all I’m asking is for everyone to show Carlee some respect. She actually battled for her life for 48 hours, so until she regains her physical and mental stability, she is unable to provide any updates or information regarding the whereabouts of her kidnapper at this time.”
Russell’s mother, Talitha Robinson-Rusell, said that after getting out of the car, my daughter-in-law asked the child if he was okay.
She said she could hear what the kid said.
She continues, “And then we heard our daughter Carlee scream, and from there on all we could hear was noise—background noise in her phone, which we later found out was noise from the interstate.”
