Nothing launched their wireless earphone called Ear (1) in December 2021, the company has come back with their first mobile phone.
Who is Carl Pei?
Carl Pei is a Chinese-born Swedish entrepreneur. Pei along with Pete Lou founded the uber-successful Chinese company, OnePlus back in 2013. He was born in China on September 11, 1989 and is currently aged 33 years with him holding a Swedish citizenship. He is unmarried and said to be single as well at the moment. His net worth stands at $10 million.
He left OnePlus in October 2020 for his start-up electronic hardware company, Nothing.
Born in China, Pei relocated to the US at a young age and then moved to Stockholm, Sweden.
He enrolled in the Stockholm School of Economics in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2008 to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree. He left the programme in 2011 and started working in the Chinese smartphone industry.
Pei is following the footsteps of his inspiration, Steve Jobs and wishes to build. Just like Jobs, he also co-founded a successful business and then moved on to his individual venture.
Pei’s Career
Pei started off his career in 2010 with Nokia. However, he left the company within three months and started fan own website for the Chinese brand, Meizu. He used to work on his laptop from a McDonald’s outlet.
In 2011 after being noticed by the company, he was offered a job in the Marketing team of the company.
Pei also worked with another Chinese electronic giant, Oppo, as an international marketing manager. Pei met Pete Lou in Oppo who later co-founded OnePlus with him.
Carl Pei alongside, Pete Lou started the company in Shenzhen, Guangdong; in December 2013. The company launched their first mobile phone in April 2014.
In October 2020, he resigned from his position as Global Director of the company to pursue a new venture. OnePlus is currently owned by BBK Electronics which also owns Oppo, Realme and Vivo.
What to expect from Phone (1)
The latest Nothing gadget was announced on Twitter by the company’s official page.
Available in white and black colours, the phone comes in three variants 8GB/128GB (Rs 32,999), 8GB/256GB (Rs 35,999), and the 12GB/256GB (Rs 38,999).
It has a 6.55” OLED display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. The phone offers features like a dual camera and wireless charging.
The phone will be available for pre-order on Flipkart from July 21, 2022.
