Carl Cheffers is an American football official who is well-known for being the referee in the National Football League (NFL). He has been in the news because during the week 5 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders, his voice fumbled at one point which made him an instant meme material for social media users.
He was born on July 22, 1960, in Whittier, California, U.S. His father was employed by the Pacific-10 Conference as a football official as well (Pac-10). He holds American nationality.
He is married and his wife’s name is Nanette. Together, they both have a son and a daughter.

His Career
Since his time in college, when he worked intramural sports to boost his extra income, Carl Cheffers had an interest in officiating. He started officiating high school football games after receiving instruction from his father.
He oversaw two high school championship games and a number of high school playoff games in 1980. He started officiating in the Pac-10 15 years later, in 1995, where he spent five seasons.
He first served as a side judge in the NFL. In the 2008 season, he received a promotion to crew chief (referee). Brandon Cruse, Mike Carr, Jeff Seeman, Nate Jones, Eugene Hall, Matt Edwards, Kevin Brown, and Karlton Derrick are now on his 2022 team. His uniform number is 51.
