The pilot who lost his life in the Uttarakhand helicopter crash on Sunday morning was identified as 37-year-old Rajveer Singh Chauhan, a resident of Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar.
Rajveer had retired as a Lieutenant Colonel last year and was among the seven killed after the helicopter carrying Char Dham yatra pilgrims from Kedarnath crashed near Gaurikund in Rudraprayag district.
Rajveer and his wife Deepika, currently a Lieutenant Colonel with the Army, had become parents to twins just four months ago after about 14 years of marriage and the family is originally from Mahwa in Dausa district.
Rajveer’s elder brother, Chandraveer, has meanwhile left for Uttarakhand to collect his remains.
Rajveer had served in the Indian Army for more than 15 years before joining Aryan Aviation Private Ltd in October 2024. According to officials, Chauhan was piloting the Bell 407 helicopter that crashed near Gaurikund, claiming the lives of all seven people on board, including himself.
His father, Govind Singh, shared that the family learned about the incident through one of Chauhan’s colleagues. He also mentioned that Chauhan’s wife, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, had given birth to twins just four months ago. Chauhan’s professional background reflected extensive experience in aviation operations. His LinkedIn profile highlighted his expertise in flying missions over varied terrains, managing aerial operations, and undergoing training in multiple helicopter models as well as their maintenance.
As news of his death spread, relatives and friends began gathering at his residence in Shastri Nagar to offer their condolences and support to the grieving family. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and former chief minister Ashok Gehlot were among the political leaders who expressed their sorrow over the tragedy. Sharma described the incident as deeply saddening and prayed for peace for the departed souls, invoking blessings from Baba Kedar for strength to the bereaved families. Gehlot also conveyed his heartfelt condolences and called the loss of Chauhan and the other six passengers a tragic moment for the state and the country.
