Deeksha has undergone a rigorous training with the Special Forces of the Indian Army before she was posted in the battalion.
As part of Operation Dost, Captain Deeksha was deployed to Turkey in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake.
While women are not allowed to join the Para SF as combat soldiers, Indian Army doctors of both genders are regularly attached to Para SF battalions and undergo the same rigorous training as the Para SF soldiers.
Hailing from Karnataka’s Davangere, Captain Deeksha C Mudadevannanavar is the first woman officer to be commissioned into an elite special forces unit of the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army and was commissioned into the Indian Army’s MH Golconda through the Short Service Commission (SSC) in October 2019. She was in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and after getting commissioned, Deeksha proceeded to be trained for MOBC at Army Medical Corps Center in Lucknow.
Following the completion of the first stage of the course, Captain Deeksha was posted to 303 Field Hospital in Leh’s Tangtse and applied to join the Parachute Regiment twice but failed to make it through. She was conferenced out on the first attempt as her physical abilities were not up to the mark and in her second attempt, Captain Deeksha suffered an injury and was again unable to get selected into the Parachute Regiment.
Her age and DOB isn’t known.
“As a first woman officer in the special forces unit, I can say with confidence that there is no negative culture in the Indian Army. The environment is very positive and uniform. All that is required is commitment and devotion to the duty,” she said.
