For the unversed, on Friday, August 9, a tragic plane crash in Brazil claimed the lives of 62 people on board, including a highly experienced pilot and a father traveling with his younger daughter.

Flight captain, Danilo Santos Romano, who was the first victim to be identified following the crash that occurred in São Paulo state. The 35-year-old had been a pilot for more than 10 years.
As per his LinkedIn profile, Danilo Santos Romano had joined Voepass airline in 2022. Living in São Paulo, Romano had reportedly logged more than 4,500 flight hours.
A colleague described him as “always smiling” and “willing to help.” As per his Facebook profile, he recently, participated in a 15K race and celebrated the Palmeiras football club.

What Exactly Happened?
Romano was at the controls of the twin-engine ATR 72-500, which crashed in a residential area of Vinhedo with 58 passengers and 4 crew members on board. Authorities confirmed on Saturday morning , August 10, that there were no survivors in the heartbreaking crash.

Among the victims of the Brazil plane crash were co-pilot Humberto de Campos Alencar e Silva, 61, and flight attendants Débora Soper Avila, 29, and Rubia Silva de Lima, 41.
Also lost in the crash were José Cloves Arruda, 76, and his wife Maria Auxiliadora Vaz de Arruda, 74, as well as Rafael Fernando dos Santos, 41, and his 3-year-old daughter, Liz Ibba dos Santos.

The father and daughter were reportedly traveling to Santa Catarina to celebrate Brazilian Father’s Day together. Additionally, reports reveals that, numerous doctors who were heading to a seminar were also on board.
These doctors includes Arianne Albuquerque Estavan Risso and Mariana Comiran Belim, clinical oncology residents from Cascavel Cancer Hospital.
The hospital released a statement praising their dedication and affection for their patients, expressing deep sorrow over their loss.

The official death toll of 61 was updated on Saturday when Voepass confirmed that a 58th passenger, Constantino Thé Maia, was not on the manifest due to a “technical issue.”
What Did Report Reveal?
As per reports, many passengers had shared updates on social media before the flight, unaware of the tragedy that would soon unfold. By midday Saturday, officials had removed nearly 30 bodies from the crash site.
The São Paulo-bound plane had taken off from Cascavel at 11:56 a.m. local time on Friday and flew without incident for about an hour and a half.
The crew did not issue a distress call or report any adverse weather conditions, and there was no evidence they attempted to contact nearby regional airports, according to Ports and Airports Minister Silvio Costa Filho.
Voepass CEO Eduardo Busch assured the public that the crew was competent, and investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the plane to descend over 13,000 feet in just one minute.
The plane’s black box, containing voice recordings and flight data, was recovered and will be analyzed for clues.
