With nearly 7,000 hours of flying experience in the Nepali skies, Gurung was well-regarded for his skills and expertise. Raju Neupane Gurung, the flight safety manager of Manang Air, emphasized that the ill-fated flight was a routine one for Chet Bahadur Gurung.
After losing communication immediately following departure, the helicopter carrying Gurung and five other people was later found to have crashed in Lamjura’s Likhupike Rural Municipality 5.
The names of the five Mexican citizens that died in the collision are Sifuentes G. Fernando (age 95), Sifuentes Rincon Ismail (age 98), Sifuentes Gongalez Abril (age 72), Gongalez Olacio Luz (age 65), and Sifuentes G. Maria Jese (age 52).
Following the horrific tragedy, the authorities acted quickly and announced the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the cause of the Manang Air helicopter crash. Who is Chet Bahadur Gurung?
Chet Bahadur Gurung was a Nepali pilot. He has been in the news because he passed away in a helicopter incident alongside five Mexican nationals.
He was a native of Kaski, Pokhara. Throughout his career, he maintained ties with several helicopter manufacturers. He had flown for MI-17 Helicopters, Gorkha Airlines, and Sri Airlines before beginning his employment with Manang Air in 2014. He also had experience flying overseas during his tenure with Shree Airlines.
According to local media accounts, Chet Bahadur Gurung has flown helicopters in Nepali skies for close to 7,000 hours after surviving an earlier tragedy. Locals and police who arrived at the accident site confirmed that all six people—including the pilot—were dead, according to authorities.
At the time of his death, he was 55 years old.
