Earlier, reports emerged suggesting that the EITF authorities had apprehended five individuals namingly Bandhumaan Sekhon, Harmanjit Singh, Tejinder Tatla, Dinesh Kumar, and Rukhsar Achakzai, of which four men are of Indian origin.

As per the media reports, the EITF has caught these five individuals for seizing 4 firearms in connection with the recent extortion incidents targeting South Asian businesses in Brampton and Mississauga.
Om Thursday, the EITF authorities stated that the group, consisting of 4 men and one woman, was recently arrested and later released under court-imposed conditions.
Charges
As per the official documents, Bandhumaan Sekhon, who reportedly hails from British Columbia, was arrested on August 19 for a January 2024 incident. The 27-year-old currently faces charges of conspiracy, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Meanwhile, the other member of the group Harmanjit Singh reportedly from Brampton, faces charges of assault with a weapon, extortion, and obstructing a peace officer. The 25-year-old was arrested on July 4 for a May 2024 incident.
Additionally, Tejinder Tatla also from Brampton faces charges of extortion, and unsafe firearm storage, with 3 firearms seized during the course of investigation. The 44-year-old man was apprehended on July 25 for threatening a business owner.
The fourth member of the group, a 24-year-old from Hamilton, Dinesh Kumar was arrested on charges of extortion on August 14, while the last member, who is also the youngest member of the group Rukhsar Achakzai of NGH Brampton was arrested on July 30.
Afghan-Canadian influencer Rukhsar Achakzai, 21 whose roots trace back to Afghanistan and is a Muslim by religion was arrested in connection with extortion cases targeting South Asian businesses in Peel Region. Rukhsar who is a social media influencer has gone viral on Instagram for her videos featuring cars with her usually seen endorsing car dealerships and selling their cars in Canada, especially Brampton.
The 21-year-old woman was arrested on the charges of extortion and mischief under $5,000.
Ms. Achakzai was previously under contract with Limitless Tire with the company revealing it wasn’t aware of the allegations during the time it partnered with her.

To learn that someone connected to our organization has been accused of such serious wrongdoing is devastating. We are committed to doing everything in our power to rebuild that trust,” the company said about Rukhsar’s arrest.
All suspects were held behind bars for bail hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton before being released with conditions.

Police Investigation
Earlier, the Chief of Peel Police, Nishan Duraiappah stated in a video message that the force noticed a “disturbing” trend of extortion in late 2023 and that these “incidents deeply impacted victims and their families.”
In retaliation to these extortion incidents, the EITF was formed. Since its inception, the task force has investigated over 60 extortion-related cases, leading to 21 arrests and 154 criminal charges.
These incidents often involve threats, property damage, and firearms, with victims frequently targeted via social media platforms. So far, the task force has seized approximately 20 firearms, over 11 Kgs of methamphetamines and various stolen vehicles.
