Calvin used to be a member of the Van Vleck High School football squad. According to The Athletic, Patrice coached the girls’ track, basketball, and volleyball teams while she was a teacher at Columbia High.
Patrice told 247Sports in 2022 that she had a legitimate cause for leaving her position as a basketball coach after 24 years. Of Calvin and Patrice’s four children, Cam is the youngest. Aaliyah and Chantel are his sisters, and Alton is his brother.
Kyron Drones, a quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies and Baylor Bears, is Ward’s cousin. Ward is also related to former defensive back Quentin Jammer of the San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans player Quandre Diggs.

Incarnate Word was where Cam Ward started his college career. Prior to his rookie season, which was played in the spring after being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was selected as the starting quarterback for the Cardinals.
On January 10, 2022, Ward declared his intention to transfer to Washington State. During the Cougars’ spring workouts, he was selected as the starting quarterback for the 2022 season. He had already enrolled for the second semester of his sophomore year.
After the 2023 season, he first registered for the 2024 NFL draft, but he ultimately chose to use his remaining eligibility to move to Miami for the 2024 campaign. On January 13, 2024, Ward declared his intention to transfer to Miami.
Cam Ward guided Miami to a 10-2 record in the 2024 season. In the last week of the season, Miami suffered a 42-38 defeat against Syracuse in a close battle. Clemson advanced to the conference championship game after Miami was ousted from the ACC Championship Game due to the loss.
