Calvin Ridley brief bio and early career
Calvin Orin Ridley is an American football wide receiver born on 20 December 1994, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. He currently plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. Prior to starting his NFL career, Calvin played college football at Alabama.
As a youngster, Ridley played Pop Warner football with other current league players like Lamar Jackson, Marquise Brown, and Trayvon Mullen. Ridley attended the Monarch High School where he played high school football for the Knights. While playing there, Ridley was widely considered as a five-star recruit.
After graduating high school, he joined at the University of Alabama on April 19, 2014, where he got immediate playing time as a freshman in 2015. That same year, Ridley recorded an eight-reception for 102 yards performance in the SEC Championship game. He also helped win the Cotton Bowl with 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ridley also led the SEC in receptions back in 2015 with 89 receptions.
The following year in 2016, Ridley recorded a career high of 11 receptions and 174 yards by 1st October. He further accumulated 41 receptions for 371 receiving yards and four touchdowns over the rest of the season. Later in the 2017 season, Ridley started off strong and maintained a high level of play, leading his team to a National Championship victory.

Calvin Ridley began his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons who picked him in the 2018 NFL Draft. Ridley was the 26th overall pick in the first draft round and made his NFL debut against the Philadelphia Eagles. In his first year, Ridley won the Offensive Rookie of the Month and made the All-Rookie Team.
He also set the NFL record for most number of receiving touchdowns by a rookie in his first four games. Ridley went on with his high-flying performances as also set Falcons’ franchise records with the most receiving touchdowns in a season by a rookie. He also set the most receiving touchdowns in the first two games of a season.
However, his run was cut short in 2019, after suffering an abdominal injury while playing against the Carolina Panthers. Despite a premature end to the 2019 season, he still finished it with 63 receptions for 866 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns.
Ridley returned in the 2020 season to make his third consecutive 100-yard game. His performances eventually also earned him the Associated Press All-Pro 2nd Team for the 2020 season. Ridley finished the 2020 season with a record of 90 receptions for 1,374 and nine receiving touchdowns.
However, Ridley took an indefinite break in 2021 citing a battle with some mental health issues. While on his break, the NFL announced on March 7, 2022, that they would suspend Ridley for betting on games in the previous season. The games included bets on his own team. Following the suspension, he had to forfeit his $11.1M base salary for 2022.
Despite still being under suspension, the Falcons traded Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley was traded for a conditional 2023 sixth-round and 2024 fourth-round pick.
