The diminutive pup who has perfectly-coiffed white and black fur, earned Best in Show after his performance at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Buddy Holly brief background and road to victory
Buddy Holly is six-year-old pooch who shares a name with legendary rock artist Buddy Holly. Holly has an even-keeled demeanor and always wears an air of confidence and was a fan favorite from the start.
His handler and owner Janice Hayes stated:
He’s the epitome of a show dog. Nothing bothers him.”
Buddy entered the tournament by scoring high marks from the very start. He competed against 3,000 other dog from over 210 different breeds. Buddy eventually reached the final where he managed to beat a tough competitor in Rummie the Pekingese.
Following his victory, Buddy Holly is just one of the few dogs to have ever won the much-admired award. Along with that, Buddy is also the first Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (PGBV) to have ever won the Westminster crown.
While expressing about the win, Hayes stated:
He’s just everything a PBGV should be – hardheaded, stubborn, happy. He moves just so easily, and we are just so proud of him.”

Buddy Holly belong to a breed known as “Petit” in the U.S., “Roughie” in the U.K., and “Griffon” in Denmark. In short, the breed is called PBGV and the particular breed is very popular in France.

PBGV’s are usually known to be very lively and often catch the eye for their rough and long unkempt hair. Most PBGV’s tend to grow a little over a foot, and weigh around a solid 25-45 pounds. PBGV’s generally have muscular limbs, and a tousled coat with an ever-wagging tail. PBGV’s often have bubbly personalities, and are often commonly used as a therapy dog.
