Forbes joined the Spurs on July 14, 2016, after going undrafted for the 2016 NBA Summer League. His performance at one of the NBA draft pre-workouts, where he made 77 out of 100 three-point attempts, left a lasting impression on his coach.
His career was drastically influenced in 2018 when he re-signed with the Spurs. In his first four games, he scored at least ten points, becoming only the second Spurs point guard since Maurice Cheeks in 1989 to accomplish this feat.
