49 year old Bryan Kevin Porter Sr. was the father of rising NBA star Bryan Kevin Porter Jr. During his childhood, he attended Rainier Beach High School, and he was a good baseball player besides playing football and basketball for his school team.

Kevin Porter Sr. prison sentence and imprisonment

Back in 1993, Kevin Porter Sr. was just 19 years old when he was charged with first-degree murder. According to eye witness reports, Porter removed his gun and pointed it at a 14-year-old girl. He proceeded to tell her that he would shoot her before eventually shooting her in his car.

Meanwhile, Porter claimed that it was the girl who had asked to see his semi-automatic gun while in the car. He stated that the gun had accidentally discharged while handing it to her, which killed her. Overtime, the witness later renounced his testimony that Porter had shot the girl intentionally.

However, the court sentenced Porter to four-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of intentional manslaughter. It was after his release from prison that Kevin Porter Jr. was born in May 2000. In 2004, just four years after he was born, Just Porter Sr. passed away after getting shot five times during a bar fight.

Porter’s mother did not allow the young boy to attend his father’s funeral as she wanted him to only have fond memories of his father. Presently, Porter Jr. is an upcoming NBA star. He wears the No. 4 jersey because he was four years old at the time of his father’s death.

Kevin Porter Jr. facing assault charges

While Kevin Porter Jr. is doing well in basketball, he is also having his own troubles with the law. Just recently, he was arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend during an argument. The Authorities have charged him with assault and strangulation. According to reports, this is not his first brush with the law, as he was previously arrested in 2020.

Police arrested him after they found a loaded firearm and marijuana in his car. He was however, not indicted. Just a few days after the incident, some police reports also alleged Porter of punching a woman in the face following an altercation with his sister.

Despite his troubles with the law, Kevin Porter Jr., is doing well in his basketball career. Porter joined the NBA as the No. 30 pick in the 2019 draft. He initially gained prominence last season after averaging 19.2 points per game and also made a memorable 3-pointer with just 0.4 seconds left on the clock. His 3-pointer helped the Rockets win 114-111 past the Washington Wizards.
