“If he [Mwape] wants to sleep with someone, you have to say yes. It’s normal that the coach sleeps with the players in our team

According to a source close to the players, as reported by the Guardian:

They are being threatened with punitive action if they dare say anything about what happened. The federation is turning a blind eye because the women have had good results. It’s their way to show to the public and the authorities success and a good image. But behind the scenes, it’s very ugly.”

In 2018, Bruce Mwape was chosen to lead Zambia’s women’s team. He was the first manager to assist the squad in earning a spot in the Women’s World Cup. Mwape’s reputation appears to be suffering off the pitch even while the team is making history there.

The claims of s*xual misbehaviour against Zambian coach Bruce Mwape are apparently known to FIFA. The governing body has requested that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) look into the situation.

However, a FIFA official declined to offer any conclusive remarks on the matter. To inquire about the Mwape incident, The Guardian made a string of inquiries to FAZ. FAZ’s general secretary, Adrian Kashala, stated (per The Guardian):

“Although we have no record of official complaints from anyone on the allegations, we consider these allegations very serious and have opened an inquiry into the matter.”

He further said:

“We shall collaborate with the Zambia Police Service and other relevant stakeholders in dealing with this matter.”

The inquiry into the incident has been given to FIFA and the Zambian Police Services, according to FAZ president Andrew Kamanga. They do this because they wish to prevent any bias.
