Brooklyn, a junior from Thurston High School in Oregon, clinched the OSAA 5A girls’ 100-meter hurdles state title in a dramatic fashion. The junior at Thurston High School, also finished third in the long jump and fourth in the 100 meters.
Brooklyn Anderson lost her balance after clipping the last hurdle while leading the 100-meter hurdles. Using her gymnastics experience as a guide, she executed two front somersaults, winning the 5A state title in 14.93 seconds on 31 May, 2025.

Brooklyn Anderson is a junior in high school from Thurston, Oregon. Following a spectacular and unusual finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the Oregon 5A State Championships on May 31, Brooklyn Anderson went viral on the internet.
Good thing Brooklyn Anderson was a gymnast before she took up track as she needed her previous skills to win the 100-meter hurdles at the Oregon state high school championships on Saturday.
The junior athlete, representing Thurston High School, won first place with two spectacular somersaults across the finish line that were seen by almost 50 million people online.

At Hayward Field in Eugene, Anderson was in the lead when she tripped over the last hurdle, lost her footing, and started to tumble downward. She did two forward flips, tucked into a roll, and crossed the finish line first with a time of 14.93 seconds, however, rather than crashing out of the race.
On Instagram, Brooklyn shared her joy and gratitude: “Wow, what a memorable season. Year 3 is one for the books. Thank you everybody for the support, and especially thank you to the most amazing heat of girls a girl could finish a race with. You guys are awesome. With more than 50 million views across many platforms and counting, the video of her jumping the last hurdle and doing a double somersault over the finish line has gone popular on social media. Her agility and quick thinking enthralled viewers, causing the moment to go viral.
She told CBS station KOIN-TV, it was a little of muscle memory.
The athlete remarked, ” All I remember is resorting back to my gymnastics career.”
As a result, Anderson tucked and rolled when she struck the ground and performed two flawless somersaults, which helped her cross the finish line.
In addition to winning a state championship, Brooklyn Anderson’s incredible athleticism will go down as one of the most viral triumphs in track and field history.
