Beatriz Rodriguez de Souza is a Brazilian judoka who was born on May 20, 1998 in Itariri, São Paulo, Brazil. She was born to Poscedonio José de Souza Neto, who is a military veteran and ex-judoka. Beatriz grew up in the coastal town of Peruíbe. She is currently 26 years old, recently represented Brazil at the 2024 Summer Olympics and managed to win the gold medal in the Women’s +78 kg event.

Over the years, the Brazilian judoka has dominated at the sport, winning various competitions across different levels. She has so far competed across the following major competitions – Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan American Games, Pan American Championships, IJF Grand Slam, IJF Grand Prix, World Juniors Championships, and World Cadets Championships.
Beatriz won her first gold medal at the 2017 Pan American Championships, in Panama City in the same +78 kg. She has since gone on to win the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 edition of the event. Souza also won a gold medal at the 2019 World Judo Championships and a silver medal at the 2022 Judo Grand Slam Tel Aviv.
She is now the proud winner of the 2024 Summer Olympics Women’s +78 kg category, after defeating Israel’s Raz Hershko. The victory marks her first-ever Olympics gold win and the Brazil’s first gold medal at this year’s competition. Prior to her recent win, the 26-year-old won bronze in the same weight class at the 2023 World Championships.
