On October 23, 1995, Kody Robert Mommaerts was born in Oceanside, California to a lawyer with him being raised by a single father who was born in 1945. He is 6ft 7in tall and was already 6 feet 1 inch tall when he was aged 12.
His father actually got him into combat sports and did Shūdōkan karate when he was very young cause he struggled with balance. He also played the saxophone as child.

At just 28 years old, Big Mo has announced some of the biggest fights in the world for millions of viewers and is currently the ring announcer for BOXXER, which airs on Sky Sports, the largest boxing platform in Europe and one of the largest in the world. In 2019 he was named the ‘Ring Announcer on the Rise’ by the Scrap News, which he won again in 2020 and has also done work as an actor, on-air personality, commentator, and emcee.

Prior to his career in entertainment, Kody played Division 1 football at the University of Northern Colorado, where he was also an award-winning student at the Montfort College of Business and graduated early with his bachelor’s degree in Business-Marketing, and then became the first Full-Time MBA recipient in the school’s history.
Kody currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
Mommaerts’ first job was with Sparta Sports & Entertainment where he was brought on as a color-commentator and then took over the ring announcer role. Mommaerts’ passion for martial arts began when he began taking Shotokhan Karate seriously as his first sport. He spent over seven years training in the field with a number of talented Karatekas, most notably Kamran Madani. He committed to play Division I collegiate football at the University of Northern Colorado after excelling as an offensive lineman at Louisville, Colorado’s Monarch High School.
Mommaerts played football for five years as an offensive lineman and backup at the University of Northern Colorado. Mommaerts received his business marketing bachelor’s degree early from Monfort College of Business. He sought and earned a master’s degree in business administration while still eligible to play football.

The boxing promotion BOXXER, which is owned by promoter Ben Shalom and airs on Sky Sports, now has Big Mo as its official ring announcer.
In March 2022, Mommaerts also revealed that Eddie Hall and Hafþór Björnsson would square off in Dubai. At the moment, Big Mo serves as the BYB Extreme Fighting Series’ ring announcer.
Mommaerts was hired as a colour-commentator for Sparta Sports & Entertainment for his first position. He assumed the position of ring announcer shortly after. He also serves as XMMA’s ring announcer. When Dave Leduc and Cyrus Washington rematched, Mo was the first person in North America to announce Lethwei.
In 2023, the Bare-Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame awarded him the title of “Bareknuckle Ring Announcer of the Year.”
Away from combat sports, Mommaerts also serves as COO at Sports Thread, focusing on youth sports.
