A 12-round eliminator bout for the IBF/WBA lightweight world championship will pit Mexico’s William “El Camaron” Zepeda against his first opponent from England, Maxi “Maximus” Hughes, the former IBO world champion.
The bout, which is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 16 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas from The Chelsea.

A look at William Zepeda’s career
On November 14, 2015, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Zepeda made his professional debut by defeating Alonso Salvatierra via third-round knockout (KO).
Zepeda won his second title on March 2, 2019, in Ciudad Acuña, Mexico, by defeating Eliot Chavez by TKO in the tenth and final round to win the vacant WBC FECARBOX Silver lightweight title. This came after two more victories in non-title fights in the latter half of 2018; Ulises Perez via TKO in September and Maximiliano Galindo via KO in November.
The vacant WBA Continental Americas lightweight title was at stake when Zepeda, following four stoppage wins in non-title bouts, took on unbeaten prospect Hector Tanajara Jr. on July 9, 2021, at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
The fight was stopped by Tanajara’s camp prior to the start of the seventh round, and Zepeda went on to win the vacant WBA regional title via sixth-round RTD. On November 13, 2021, he made his first defence of the WBA title by knocking out John Vincent Moralde in the fourth round.
