Bourland is coming off a three-fight winning streak that ended in a fifth-round TKO over Santario Martin in September 2022. His sole bout in the previous six years was the triumph over Martin.

Ryan started boxing early when he was just in sixth grade. In his professional boxing career, Bourland is 17-2 with six knockouts. The 35-year-old native of California was a boxer in the National Junior Olympics and a former Golden Gloves winner.
Ryan was a National Junior Olympics fighter, a Golden Gloves champion, and the winner of over fifteen amateur fights. At the age of 25, Ryan started boxing professionally. He began boxing at the age of eleven, but problems in his life began to surface only four years later. However, after his parents got separated, his boxing career was halted until he turned 22.
Bourland made his professional debut against Alberto Avina in 2013 and went on to win his first seven fights with an orthodox stance. He would win the fight by TKO, just as he would defeat Ray Mesa and Phillip Smith. Bourland would eventually prevail by unanimous decision in his fights against Loren Myers and Zlatko Ledic, which would go the distance.
