Indian boxer Parveen Hooda advanced to the round of eight of the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday after winning her initial contest.

Parveen defeated local favourite Xu Zichun in the women’s 57kg round of 16 match in Hangzhou 2023, winning 5:0 on points. She won the first two rounds of the contest thanks to her excellent technique and consistent opponent space. Xu Zichun answered in the third round, but finally, the judges decided to award the 23-year-old Indian boxer the triumph.

Who is Parveen Hooda?
Parveen Hooda is an amateur boxer from India who won gold at the 2019 South Asian Games and bronze at the 2022 World Championships. She measures 172 cm (5 ft 8 in) tall and was born on 15th April 2000 in Rohtak, Haryana.
Praveen is coached by Sudhir Hooda, who has been a huge support to her besides her family. He is her village’s Sarpanch, who started a handball and boxing academy to combat the village’s unemployment and drug abuse problems. The 23-year-old boxing youngster said, as per scroll.in:
Besides my family, the biggest support for me has been Sudhir sir. He had started boxing as well as kabaddi. He brought in several coaches, instruments and everything else… he provided for everything.”
A look at Parveen Hooda’s career so far
After defeating seasoned opponent Sarita Devi during regional competitions in 2019, Parveen became well-known. To cap off an incredible year, she took home a gold medal at the South Asian Games. Since then, she has continued to triumph.
After achieving the title of 2021 National Champion in the 63kg category, Parveen finished her career by taking home the bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships held in Turkey. She then won gold at the Asian Championships in Jordan in 2022, solidifying her rise to stardom and now into the quarterfinals of the Asian Games.

My family isn’t well-to-do. We have only a little land which is barren and my father is a heart patient and cannot work.
She further continued:
We have one buffalo whose milk we sell. It was difficult for my mother to raise our family with that money. But she always made sure to support me.”
