Who Is Amit Panghal?

Amit Panghal is a well-known Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and an amateur boxer. He was recently in news for assuring another medal for India in the ongoing Commonwealth games 2022.

He was born on October 16, 1995, in Haryana’s Rohtak district’s Mayna village. His older brother, Ajay Panghal, is in the Indian Army, and his father, Vijender Singh Panghal, is a farmer in Mayna.

Amit began boxing at Sir Chhoturam Boxing Academy in 2007 after being encouraged by his brother, a former amateur fighter. He is now a junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army as of March 2018. He is a member of The Mahar Regiment’s 22nd Battalion.

His weight is 52 kg (115 lb). He is presently 26 years old. His height stands at 5 feet 2 inches.

His Career

In his first outing at the National Boxing Championships in 2017, Amit Panghal took home the gold title. In the light flyweight division of the 2017 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in Tashkent, he took home the bronze medal.

At the Strandzha Cup in Sofia in February 2018, Panghal won the gold medal. In the light flyweight division, he took home the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At the 2018 Asian Games, Panghal took home a gold medal. The 52 kg division’s top seed is Amit Panghal.

By capturing back-to-back gold medals at the Strandzha Cup in Sofia in February 2019, Amit Panghal successfully defended his championship. At the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships, he took home the silver medal in the flyweight class.

He won the gold medal in the boxing competition at the 2020 World Cup in Cologne, Germany, in December.

Panghal won the 52 kg division at the Governor’s Cup 2021 on April 25, 2021, in St. Petersburg, Russia, earning a bronze medal. Panghal earned the silver medal on May 31, 2021, in the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships, which were held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Panghal had to settle for a silver medal in the Thailand Open on April 9, 2022.

He is now participating in CWG 2022 and he has already assured one medal for his country.
