Dean Huijsen bio

Dean Donny Huijsen Wijsmuller is a young and upcoming professional footballer who was born on April 14, 2005, in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands. He is the son of former Dutch professional footballer Donny Huijsen, and he is currently just 19 years old. He mainly plays as a centre-back for Premier League club AFC Bournemouth.

Dean was born to a Dutch family but moved to Spain with his family when he was just five years old. Despite being born in the Netherlands, he plays for Spain at the under-21 youth international level. This is because he grew up in Spain and obtained a Spanish citizenship in February 2024.

Dean Huijsen signed a 6 year, 9,360,000 pound contract with AFC Bournemouth where he wears the number 2 jersey, including an average annual salary of 1,560,000 pounds after the club bought him for a fees of 12.6 million pounds.

Club career

Dean Huijsen started out his footballing journey with Costa Unida CF before joining Málaga’s youth sector in 2015. He played there up until 2021, before signing with Juventus, where he played for the under-17 and under-19 teams. Dean eventually got promoted to the reserve team Juventus Next Gen in January 2023. He also made his Serie A debut with the first team the following October. After a brief loan spell at Roma the following season, Huijsen finally signed for his current side Bournemouth in July 2024.

International career

Dean Huijsen started out representing the Netherlands at various youth international levels. He played for the country’s under-16, under-17, and under-18 national teams. Back in May 2022, he also featured for the Dutch under-17 squad in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Israel. During that tournament, he scored two penalties in the group stage matches.

However, after obtaining a Spanish citizenship, he got his first call-up back on March 15, 2024, by the Spain national under-21 team. He played for the team at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification match against Belgium.
