Ray McNeil Brief Bio And Bodybuilding Career
Ray McNeil was born on December 17, 1964 with his height at 5 feet 11 inches. Before becoming a bodybuilder, Ray served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. There, he met and married Sally Lowden, in 1987, a fellow comrade in the Marines.
Back then, Ray was just 23, while Sally was 27 and had just a year ago divorced her first husband. According to reports, the two had a rocky relationship with Ray allegedly having multiple affairs during their marriage.
Moreover, Sally claimed that Ray was abusive towards her, which led to intense arguments between the two. When Sally began pursuing a full-time bodybuilding career, back in 1990, Ray also followed a year later. He quickly won his pro card the same year, at the 1991 North American Championships.
However, a few years later, Ray sought a different direction and in 1994, he began taking acting classes instead. Ray had ambitions of one day becoming a stand-up comedian.
Ray McNeil Death Details
In what can only be described as a gruesome incident, Sally McNeil murdered her husband Ray on Valentineโs Day 1995. The shocking incident, occurred at around 10:40 pm on Tuesday, February 14.
Ray just finished a workout at the gym and returned home to the apartment, which he shared with his wife Sally and two of her children from her first marriage. The couple got into an argument while Ray was cooking in the kitchen.
Enraged during the argument, Sally went and got her 12-gauge shotgun from the bedroom and fired twice at her husband. Sally shot her husband in the stomach and jaw before eventually calling 911.
Medical officials rushed Ray to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla but sadly mid-surgery two hours after getting shot.
Sally McNeil Life After The Murder
Following the gruesome murder, authorities convicted Sally McNeil of murder, sentencing her to 19 years of life imprisonment. McNeilโs trial commenced on Valentineโs Day 1996, which was exactly one year to the day of the horrific incident.
Following a month-long trial, the court convicted McNeil of second-degree murder on March 19, 1996. She was imprisoned at the Central California Womenโs Facility in Chowchilla, just 40 miles north of Fresno.
On May 29, 2020, after serving 24 years in prison, the court granted parole to McNeil and eventually released her. Following her release, McNeil married her third husband, Norfleet Stewart, whom she met at a support group.
Presently, Sally McNeil is aged at 62 years, while her late husband, Ray would have been 57 had he been alive.
