Mavelikkara Additional District Judge V. G. Sreedevi gave the death sentence and described the occurrence as “unusual political murder.” The attack’s brutality was underscored by the court decision, which said that the victim’s body was targeted in areas where even a single hit may have been fatal.

The macabre nature of the crime was further accentuated by the perpetrators denuding the lower part of the victim’s body, reflecting a disturbing element of perversity. The court noted that the meticulously planned assault, executed by 12 individuals in conspiracy with three others, was a pre-meditated act of violence.

The verdict made it clear that the victim, Ranjith Sreenivasan, the state secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha, had never provoked the accused. It was decided that the existence of mitigating factors, such as the accused’s age, was inadequate to offset the seriousness of the violation.
