On Tuesday afternoon, Bionca Ellis was arraigned over video conferencing from the jail with a $1 million bond in Giant Eagle store stabbing case. Police said she’s been charged with aggravated homicide. The toddler was stabbed and attacked outside the Giant Eagle on Lorain Road in North Olmsted, along with his mother. The patients were taken by ambulance to Westlake’s St. John Medical Centre.

According to public records, Bionca Ellis, 32, of Cleveland has not had an extensive criminal history and on Tuesday, Ellis was charged with the aggravated murder of Julian Wood.

Prior to that, court records show Ellis had been charged with theft at a North Olmsted Walmart in May of last year and Ellis pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of unauthorized use of property and was given a six-month probation.

Ellis never completed her required theft education program and a warrant was then issued for her arrest.

Investigators say Ellis stabbed the boy and his mother with a kitchen knife in the parking lot of a Giant Eagle supermarket in North Olmsted in a random attack.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner verified on Tuesday morning that North Olmsted resident Julian Wood, age three, passed away in the hospital. Margot Wood, the mother of the kid, 38 was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the police.

Police detective Sgt. Matt Beck revealed that while Margot will recover physically, the psychological trauma she experienced is likely to last “the rest of her life.” The victims did not appear to have interacted before the attack, according to the police, who also highlighted that the attack seemed random.

According to Beck, Ellis was captured on camera stealing the knife from a Volunteers of America store nearby. She passed Margot and Julian Wood as she entered the grocery shop, which was captured on camera. With the knife in hand, she then trailed them back outside to their car.

Julian Wood was stabbed in the face and back and Margot was wounded in the shoulder. Then, Ellis began to move away. 32 year old Ellis did not struggle throughout her arrest, according to Beck, even though she was still holding the knife.

A GoFundMe page set up by loved ones for the family has generated over $90,000 as of Wednesday morning.
