He was born on August 31, 1961, in Gujarat, India. His father’s name is Hasmukh Patel, and his mother’s name is Bhakti Patel. He is currently 61 years old.
Bimal Patel did his schooling at St. Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall, Ahmedabad.ย Subsequently, he attended the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology’s School of Architecture (CEPT). He served as Frei Otto’s trainee in 1981 at the Stuttgart, Germany-based Institute for Lightweight Structures.
After finishing his studies, he relocated to Berkeley to enroll in the College of Environmental Design (CED), where he finally earned degrees in M.Arch. and M.C.P. He later completed a Ph.D. in the Department of City and Regional Planning from there.
