Who is Samrat Choudhary?

Samrat Choudhary is an Indian politician associated with the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP). He has been in the news because he is going to be the new deputy chief minister of Bihar.

He was born in Lakhanpur, Bihar, India, on 16th November 1968. Samrat belongs to the Koeri caste and his ancestral village is located in Munger district’s Tarapur block, Lakhanpur. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, is a senior politician, while his mother, Parvati Devi, is a homemaker.

After completing his schooling, he attended Madurai Kamaraj University.

His mother’s name is Mamta Kumari and the couple has two kids.

His career

Samrat Choudhary first entered politics in 1990 and was appointed Minister of Agriculture in 1999. In addition to being the opposition party’s chief whip and an MLA, he eventually assumed leadership as the minister of housing and urban development.

Prior to joining the BJP, Choudhary was involved with a number of political groups. In 2021, he became the Panchayati Raj minister, marked by controversies and developmental efforts.

Samrat Choudhary was chosen to lead the Bihar BJP in March 2023, taking over from Sanjay Jaiswal. Notably, Choudhary led protests against the Nitish Kumar government’s policies, facing arrests.

Known for being vocal, he accused JDU president Lalan Singh of wrongdoing and criticized Nitish Kumar for not elevating leaders from his group. Choudhary, who actively engaged in opposition politics inside the Bihar Legislative Assembly and advocated for reform, played a vital role in Bihar politics despite controversies.
