Sifan Hassan claimed gold for the Netherlands, setting a new Games record of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 55 seconds on a scorching morning in Paris, which caused 11 runners to drop out on the exceptionally hilly course.

Who is Kinzang Lhamo?
Kinzang Lhamo is a well-known Bhutanese marathon and ultramarathon runner who was born on June 15, 1998. Lhamo has devoted herself to ultramarathons, where she gained recognition by coming second in Snowman Race, which happened in 2022; this race is extremely difficult as it lasts for five consecutive days and runs through Himalayan mountains and Chamkhar in Bumthang. In the same year she recorded a second finish at Coronation Marathon in Paro, Bhutan.
Lhamo was back on the winning track when she won the Bhutan International Marathon title in 2023. She broke her own record during the 10th edition of this event held at Punakha, where she finished in 3 hours and 26 minutes. Hailing from Trashigang, Lhamo serves as a soldier in the Royal Bhutanese Army, stationed at Haa located in western Bhutan.
In 2024, Ms. Lhamo competed for a universality spot for representing Bhutan at Paris Olympic marathons; thus it was her first time ever abroad. During her preparation plan she received training support from Bhutan Amateur Athletic Federation (BAAF). The 2021 Summer Olympics marathon saw Lhamo finishing with an 80th place overall result run at 3:52:59 time personal best.
