The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office provided court paperwork detailing how Smyth allegedly approached a lady in her dorm room’s common area and swapped contact information.

Minutes later, he reportedly entered the woman’s dorm room and forced her to participate in many acts against her will, including r*pe. Smyth first denied knowing the victim, but he subsequently admitted to detectives that they had had s*x the moment they met.
Benjamin Smyth had already departed for Canada when police tried to serve him with a temporary protection order days after the event after discovering that he was being looked into for the rape.
