The assailant’s rampage didn’t stop there, as he went on to claim another life, a man in his 50s, in a related incident.
Barnaby Webber’s life cut short due to the Nottingham attack
Known for his athletic prowess, Webber, a 19-year-old, was innocently walking home after a night out when the devastating attack took place on Ilkeston Road. Alongside him was Grace Kumar, another 19-year-old student, who also fell victim to this ruthless assault.

Subsequently, a man in his 50s was stabbed to death on Magdala Road. The suspect allegedly stole the victim’s van and used it to attempt to run over three other individuals on Milton Street. Chief Constable Kate Meynell confirmed a suspect has since been apprehended.
The athletic legacy of Barnaby Webber
Webber’s loss has left a deep void in his hometown of Taunton, especially within the Bishops Hull Cricket Club, where he was known as a talented sportsman and a dear friend. His teammates and the club have since paid a heartfelt tribute to the young man.
Webber, affectionately known as “Webbs,” joined the club back in 2021. In the brief time since his joining, he made an indelible impact on the club. In over 30 games, he scored 622 runs and took 29 wickets, etching his memory forever into the club’s legacy. The club extended an invitation to the public to pay respects and lay flowers at the club.
The Webber family described their “complete devastation” at the “senseless murder of our son”, saying he was a “beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to” and his dad David and mum Emma, and younger brother Charlie, said: “Complete devastation is not enough to describe our pain and loss at the senseless murder of our son.
“Barnaby Philip John Webber was a beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to.
“A talented and passionate cricketer, who was over the moon to have made selection to his university cricket team.”
Community mourns for the loss of Barnaby Webber
The loss resonated across the sports community, with Somerset County Cricket Club extending condolences, stating, “This is devastating to hear. We at Somerset County Cricket Club send our wishes to Barnaby’s friends and family at this extremely difficult time.”
A close friend of Barnaby spoke to the Mirror, expressing the sheer shock and sorrow at the loss of his friend, sharing, “He was just walking home from a club like we all do. They just got unlucky. They were just five minutes from home and both got stabbed by some random guy.”
