In a game between the Barisal Division and the Sylhet Division in February 2007, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat made his debut as a first-class umpire.

After Australia decided to review a caught behind judgment from Pat Cummins’ bowling, the third umpire made a contentious verdict that ended Yashasvi Jaiswal’s strong knock of 84, sparking a big controversy during the Boxing Day Test match.

There was no spike on the extreme edge and the on-field umpire declared it not-out. In spite of this, the third umpire chose to dismiss Jaiswal after his 84-run effort, which was the only thing putting India in the running for a draw in the Boxing Day Test.
