The first transgender woman to win the title of Miss Maryland USA is Bailey Anne Kennedy. The event was hosted at Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Centre on June 1.

She told WDCW TV station in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday that her victory, which occurred on Saturday, was a “whirlwind because I knew it was bigger than me.”

31-year-old Bailey Anne Kennedy who is a native of Cambodia became the first Asian American to win Miss Maryland USA and the first spouse of a military member. She is going to compete in Los Angeles for the Miss USA title; the competition will telecast on August 4.

The Miss USA pageant, which precedes the Miss Universe competition, has at least one previous state-level winner. For more than ten years, the pageant has accepted transgender candidates. In 2018, Spain sent Angela Ponce, a transgender contestant, to Miss Universe.
Kennedy shared her achievement on Instagram as well. She mentioned that not everyone has to agree with the spaces that you occupy, and it doesn’t mean that you aren’t worthy of these opportunities.
She further said, “The work that I will do for the remainder of my life is to make sure that children who feel like me will never have to worry about the consequences of being who they are by simply being myself and being a positive contribution to society.”
