Badri’s arrest has caused a lot of fervor as while some agree, other have vehemently opposed it, stating the act as curbing one’s freedom of speech.

TN Police arrest Badri Seshadri

According to reports and the details mentioned in the FIR, advocate Kaviyarasu was responsible for lodging the complaint against Badri. According to the advocate, he came across a YouTube interview clip on July 22, where Seshadri was seen making critical remarks about the Supreme Court as well as the Chief Justice of India Chandrachud. Following the complaint, police officials arrested Badri Seshadri by citing Sections 153, 153A, and 505(1)(B).
Seshadri’s alleged ‘provocative’ comments

During the interview that Seshadri made, he reportedly stated:

The Supreme Court has said that if you (the government) cannot do anything, we (the court) will. Let’s give a gun to Chandrachud and send him there. Let’s see if he can restore peace.”

Seshadri further commented on the issue saying that Manipur is a hilly and complex region and murders will happen there. He even added that authorities cannot stop the violence from happening in the region.

Badri Seshadri brief bio and age

Badri Seshadri is a renowned political analyst and writer and the founder of a prominent publishing house in Tamil Nadu called the Kizhakku Pathippagam. He is currently 58 years old and is well known for having pro-right-wing party and organization viewpoints.

Badri Seshadri profession

Aside from being a political analyst and writer, Badri Seshadri once served on the advisory council for the Tamil Internet Education Council under the DMK government. However, his tenure in the position ended last year in October 2022. However, Badri got removed from his post for making critical comments on social media about DMK founder C N Annadurai.
Following the outbreak of violence in Manipur, Badri Seshadri expressed disapproval towards Tamil writers who blamed the Central government for the situation in the region.

BJP state president K Annamalai speaks out against Seshadri’s arrest

Following the incident, BJP state president Annamalai condemned Seshadri’s arrest, and spoke out against it. In a tweet, Annamalai accused the DMK government of being corrupt and using arrests to address the views of the common people.

He further questioned whether the Tamil Nadu Police only exists to enforce the corrupt DMK government’s revenge measures. He accused the ruling government of curbing freedom of speech. Meanwhile, notable historian Ramachandra Guha also took to Twitter to comment on the issue. He stated that criticizing the Supreme Court or even the CJI is just exercising one’s right to freedom of speech. Guha further demanded in his tweet that the TN Government should release Badri Seshadri immediately.
