Shetty overcame Yudai Okimoto of Japan with a score of 21-16 21-17 early on Saturday morning in Spokane, Washington, to go to the BWF World Junior Championships semifinals. He did it by maintaining his good form.
The top-ranked Indian youngster in singles Ayush encountered a strong challenge early on from his rival. He came back, though, to make it 16–15, and after that, he scored quickly to win the first game. Ayush quickly took a 4-0 lead and maintained it in game two. When the score was 18-12, Yudai attempted a comeback, but Ayush kept his composure and tied the game in 45 minutes.

Ayush was chosen last month to serve as the captain of the Indian squad at the ongoing BWF Junior World Badminton Championship, which will be held in the US where he already has secured a medal for India reaching the last four of the tournament and defeating his Japanese opponent.
The selection of players was not an easy task. Two-time under-19 champion Ayush Shetty performed admirably in the difficult selection trials, which were held from July 26 to July 29. He was consequently given a spot on the team and Ayush made sure the job was done right.
