Ariarne Elizabeth Titmus OAM is an Australian swimmer who was born on September 7, 2000, in Launceston, Australia. She was born to parents, Steve Titmus, and Robyn Titmus.  Back in 2015, Titmus and her family moved from Tasmania to Queensland for better training opportunities. She is the reigning Olympic champion in both the women’s 200-metre and 400-metre freestyle.

Titmus obtained the title after winning both events at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics. She also holds the world record in the long course 200-metre freestyle and 400-metre freestyle events. She also won a silver in the women’s 200m freestyle at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ariarne Titmus first trained as a swimmer at Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre. She achieved her breakthrough at the 2019 World Championships. Before that she had already set a world record in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2018 Short Course World Championships. Later in 2022, she surpassed Katie Ledecky’s mark in the same event.

Titmus won a gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with an Olympic record time of 1:53.50 in the 200-meter freestyle. She also won a silver in the 800m freestyle. Earlier this year, Titmus set a new world record in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2024 Australian Olympic Trials.
