Born on October 2, 2005, Sam Konstas, who has already made waves in domestic and youth cricket, represents New South Wales and the Under-19 team of Australia.
He came into the limelight after scoring twin centuries against South Australia in the first match of the Sheffield Shield , Australia’s domestic tournament, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat since the legendary Ricky Ponting in 1993 and has only played five first class matches till date. He doesn’t play in the IPL.
The right-handed batter is of Greek heritage as his father Gus Konstas is the widely recognized Greek-Australian cricketer, who played a total of 22 matches for Australian Team from 1989 to 1995.
Being born and raised in Sydney, Konstas attended Cranbrook School in Sydney, Australia. He was reportedly a member of school’s cricket team and participated in various contests as First XI during his first year.
In addition, he was also a member of school’s rugby team. After graduating from the school, the cricketer officially joined the sport as he began playing for New South Wales Blues and Sydney Thunder.
Career
Standing at 6 feet 0 inches, Sam Konstas’ made his first class debut in November 2023, and made his List A debut in November 2024. At the age of 17, Konstas made his first-class debut against Tasmania.
At the time, the player scored 10 runs in the first innings and 23 runs during the second innings. Later, he was signed by the Sydney Thunder for the Big Bash League 2023-24, wherein he scored 12 runs in first innings and 2 runs in second innings.
He played a total of 5 matches in the BBL for Sydney Thunder and scored a total of 58 runs.
Later, in 2024, Konstas made a drastic change and impressed everyone with his awesome performance, including twin centuries in a Sheffield Shield match for New South Wales against South Australia, that made him the youngest player to achieve the feat since Ricky Ponting in 1993.
Konstas’ stellar start to the Sheffield Shield 2024-25 season earned him a place in the Australia A squad for the India A tour. In the second unofficial Test, he played a crucial unbeaten 73-run knock to guide his team to victory alongside Beau Webster.
