Cooper Connolly is a young and upcoming Australian cricketer who was born on August 22, 2003 in Perth, Australia. He mainly plays as a left-handed batter and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. At the domestic level, he plays for Western Australia and for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. He went to The Belridge Secondary College.

Cooper is the son of Shane Connolly, who is a former assistant coach of the Scarborough team. The team competes in the Western Australian Premier Cricket, a club cricket tournament. Shane won the 2004-05 Cricketer of the Year by the West Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association.

Career and stats

Throughout his career, Connolly has so far garnered 226 runs across 15 T20 games. He had an average of 28.25 and a strike rate of around 146 for the Perth Scorches. He has so far gained six wickets at an economy of 7.

Cooper Connolly has so far represented Australia in two U19 World Cups. Back in the 2020, Connolly scored 72 runs in two innings, followed by an impressive 64 off 53 against the West Indies. During the U19 World Cup 2022, Connolly led Australia as the team captain, where they finished in third.

During that tournament, he contributed 73 runs and managed to pick up five wickets in six appearances. Cooper made one of his most notable plays during a Big Bash League (BBL) 2022/23 final between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat in Perth. Heat posted a strong lead of 175 on the board which the Scorchers had to beat.

Following a mediocre start, Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner stepped up with 53 runs. Then, Cooper Connolly stepped up as well, with the Scorchers still needing 39 off 19 balls. The youngster scored an impressive 25 off 11, while putting up an impressive unbeaten 41-run stand with Nick Hobson (18) to help the Scorchers retain the title.

Earlier this year, Cooper Connolly made his first-class debut in March 2024 for Western Australia against Tasmania. He scored an impressive 90 off 115, with 12 fours and three sixes. In the second innings, Connolly scored 18 off 30, helping the team win the game by 377 runs.
