Who is Mohammed Afsal?

Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath, an 800m competitor from Kerala, India was born on February 3, 1996. He hails from hails from Palappuram, Ottapalam, Palakkad, Kerala. For the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, he gets named to the Indian athletics team. At the 2022 Asian Games on October 3, he earned the silver medal in the men’s 800m. In his heats on October 2, he came in first.

He initially gained attention in September when he won the gold at the inaugural Asian School Track and Field Championships in Kautun, Pahang, Malaysia in 2013. He ran the 1500 metres in Chennai in 3:46.48, which was a personal best for him in 2017.

At the Qasanov Memorial Meet in ALMATY, Kazakhstan, in July 2019, he took first place in the 800 metre run. He earned a gold medal in the 800 metres at the Watford Open Graded Meeting in May as a part of an exposure trip to Europe in 2022. The same year, he won the gold in the 800 metres in the Gujarat National Games in October.

Talking about this year, he ran the 800 metres in 1 minute, 46.17 seconds, a personal best, in May at Putbosstadion in Oordegem, Belgium. He ran a wind-assisted 22.73 in the 200 metres in May at Sportpark Stappegoor in Tilburg, setting a new personal record. It is his best even though it is not a registered trademark.

He set a personal record for the 400 metres in September at Chandigarh, clocking 47.46 seconds before earning silver medal at the Asian Games 2023.
