Swaran Singh worked as a driver for the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in North Jalandhar with his death sending ripples across Punjab
On Monday morning, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police shot himself with his service revolver in Jalandhar’s Garha area, prompting the police commissioner to launch an investigation and charge three people, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of North Jalandhar, with abetment.

Police claimed they took action after receiving a complaint from Ranjit Kaur, the dead ASI’s wife.
According to reports, the ASI, Swaran Singh, was from Sherpur village and was assigned as ACP’s driver (north Jalandhar). According to police, Singh shot himself dead outside the residence of ACP North Jalandhar on Sunday night after ending his shift.

Swaran Singh’s wife, Ranjit Kaur, said that her daughter, who is in Canada, contacted her yesterday night and informed her that she had received a video in which her father and two others were seen arguing. Later, when she called her father, he did not answer. While hi exact age isn’t known, he was aged between 40-50 years.

“When I got this information, I contacted my husband, but he didn’t pick up,” Ranjit Kaur explained. Later, she said, ACP Sukhjinder Singh called her husband and informed her that Swaran had shot himself.
She then said that her husband had previously informed her that ACP Sukhjinder Singh used to harass him.
Deputy Commissioner Police (DCP), Jalandhar, Jagmohan Singh said that a charge under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) had been launched against ACP (north Jalandhar) and two others, adding that an investigation into why the ASI claimed to be harassed was ongoing.
