The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selected Ashish Bhowmick as the chief pitch curator of India, marking the first time ever that a person from Tripura has headed such a committee.
The pitch curator committee includes ten members who are responsible for looking after all the pitches in India.

Ashish Bhowmick will now take charge over all the other curators tasked with working and maintaining the pitches.
Ashish Bhowmick speaks on his new appointment
While talking to Northeast Now, Ashish Bhowmick expressed his feelings about the BCCI selecting him as the Chief pitch curator of India.
He stated:
No doubt it’s a hard and challenging job. I got every support and blessing from former chief pitch curator Daljit Singh.”
Since last 22 years I am learning from him. And while I was selected on his post it means it will be challenging”
He further added:
While I am selected and I am from Tripura, a small state that means where from you come that doesn’t matter.”
Ashish Bhowmick brief bio and career history
Bhowmick hails from the Northeast state of Tripura and has previously as a curator for the Tripura Cricket Association. Prior to this, he also worked as the eastern zone pitch curator for the BCCI.
Before taking up his career as a pitch curator, Bhowmick played first class cricket for his home-state Tripura. As a player, he was a famous fast bowler in his state club cricket.
Ashish Bhowmick began working as a curator back in 1997. One of his most notable highlights in his career as a pitch curator is the pitch curator manual that he made for the BCCI. The BCCI has since followed this manual to instruct for all the new pitch curators.
Just recently, Ashish Bhowmick was responsible for preparing the pitch for the match between India and South Africa at Pune. Following his recent selection as the chief pitch curator, thousands of people from Tripura have congratulated Ashish Bhowmick.
