Nearly ten years have passed since the best names in Indian cricket; Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid; were on a scorecard from a BCCI competition. However, if not they, then their sons brought back the nostalgic era of playing against each other.

The Vijay Merchant Trophy National U-16 boys’ tournament began on Monday and will include a three-day encounter between Delhi and Karnataka.

The “Sehwag vs. Dravid” junior cricket match was as intriguing as it could get, despite their differing outcomes on Day 1ย  where young Sehwag finished undefeated on 50.

Who is Aryavir Sehwag?

16 year old Aryavir Sehwag is the elder son of former legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag and is a right-handed batsman and studies and trains at the Sehwag International School. He has a younger brother, age 13 Vedant.

Sehwag married Aarti Ahlawat in April 2004 under heavy security cover in a publicised wedding hosted by Arun Jaitley, the then Union law minister of India, at his residence. The couple have two sons, Aryavir, born on 18 October 2007 and Vedant born in 2010.

It is said that Aryavir follows in his father’s bold and alluring footsteps, as he used to intimidate and batter the best bowlers in the world just by standing at the wicket.

Aryavir was unable to make the Delhi under-16 team’s starting lineup against Bihar, despite his talent last year. However, he was selected for the squad for Vijay Merchant Trophy the same year.

In a viral video last year, Aryavir showcased his aggressive side by brutally punching the bowlers during a net session to practise his batting style. Three times; dancing down the track, going up to the ball’s pitch, and slamming it to the ground; the young player in the video showed off remarkable footwork.

Aryavir has amassed around 19.8k followers on his official Instagram account as of this writing and his stats can be found here. He has posted several videos of him practising in the nets. In one of the videos, he is shown batting against Sachin Tendulkar. The youngster also has posted a picture with Virat Kohli with the captain “my idol” and “favourite cricketer.”
