Coincidentally, Atiq’s son, Asad Ahmed, had recently been killed in a police encounter before he was assassinated. Due to this, Atiq had earlier voiced worry about being “encountered” by the Uttar Pradesh police and had asked for police protection, but the Supreme Court had rejected his request.
Much to the shock of many, Atiq was shot dead in front of a group of police officers and media representatives. With Atiq’s passing, attention has been focused on his murderers, Lovekesh Tiwari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya.

Who is Arun Maurya?
Arun Maurya is a criminal who recently became the talk of the town for assassinating notorious gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.
He resides in the village of Baghela Pukhta, which is a part of Kasganj’s Soron Kotwali police station. Both of his parents died when he was a young child. He had lived with his uncle. However, he left his uncle’s house when he was between 7 and 8 years old.
His aunt noted that it had been many years since he last visited them. When asked about why Arun Maurya killed Atiq Ahmed, his aunt said that she had no idea about it.
His name reportedly also came up in relation to the purported murder of a police officer on board a train in 2010. During the police questioning, Maurya allegedly said that the reason they killed Atiq and Ashraf was so they could become infamous criminals.
He is 18 years old. He is also known by a different name, Kalia.
