Kasing Lung is a famous artist and illustrator who was born in 1972, in Hong Kong. Despite being born in Hong Kong, he was raised in the Netherlands, which is where he developed his fascination with European folklore. Kasing is best known as the creator of Labubu and “The Monsters” universe, and over the years, he has built a distinctive artistic voice, blending fantasy, nostalgia, and storytelling in his designs.
He studied and worked in Belgium, where he became the first Chinese artist to receive the national Illustration Award and today he splits his time between Belgium and Hong Kong, maintaining studios in both. Over the years, Lung has developed a richly layered visual universe inspired by European folklore, childhood nostalgia and his most recognisable characters, Labubu, Spooky, Tycoco, Zimomo and Pato are affectionately known as The Monsters.
In 2015, Lung introduced Labubu, a small, mischievous creature inspired by Celtic folklore, said to bring both luck and mischief and four years later, he signed a licensing deal with collectible toy giant Pop Mart to produce and distribute Labubu and her companions as collectible figures.

Career
Kasing Lung started out his career as a children’s book illustrator while living in Belgium. He gained prominence after becoming the first Chinese recipient of Belgium’s Illustration Award. Back in 2010, Kasing pivoted towards toy design and eventually returned to Hong Kong in 2012 to collaborate with How2work, which is a respected brand in collectible art and books. Kasing achieved his major breakout moment in 2013 with the release of his Chinese illustration book My Little Planet.
Later in 2014, Kasing published Lizzy Wil Danssen with author Brigitte Minne, which earned praise across Europe and Asia. He eventually made a major breakthrough in 2015 with the creation of Labubu and his imaginative world of “The Monsters.” Labubu eventually became a mainstream popularity after Kasing signed an exclusive licensing deal with Pop Mart in 2019. Most notably, his 2024 artwork Mon fetched HK$330,200 at an auction, reflecting his rise in the contemporary art toy scene.
Although his net worth isn’t known, Labubu helped Pop Mart’s sales double, with the brand now a global phenomenon. Its chairman, Wang Ning, became £1.3 billion richer in a single day as shares soared 13.2% in May following Pop Mart’s U.S. app topping the download charts and his net worth is now estimated at £12.8 billion.
