Arsenal identified Cristhian Mosquera as a priority target for defensive reinforcement, with Andrea Berta leading the push for his signing. While Jorrel Hato had previously been under consideration, the club chose to redirect its focus, partly due to concerns over how Hato’s arrival might affect Myles Lewis-Skelly’s progression. The attention shifted to Mosquera, who was recognized as a natural centre-back with a profile well suited to the team’s structure.

Club officials aimed to secure the transfer early in the summer window to strengthen the defensive unit ahead of the new season. Mosquera has spent his entire footballing career at Valencia, having joined the club’s youth academy at the age of 12. He progressed through the ranks at Mestalla and broke into the first team during the 2023/24 season, establishing himself as a regular starter.
Born in Alicante, Valencian Community to Colombian parents, Mosquera first played basketball in his hometown, before joining a futsal team and he and his cousin both played for the futsal team San Blas Cañavate.
Born on 27 June 2004, Mosquera is 21 years old. Standing at 1.88 meters (approximately 6 feet 2 inches), he offers a strong physical presence at the back, combining height with positional discipline. Although born in Alicante, Spain, Mosquera comes from Colombian heritage. His international career includes appearances for Spain at multiple youth levels, ranging from under-15 to under-23, underlining his consistent development at the national level.
He played basketball and futsal before joining Hércules CF as a youth football player and made 14 league appearances for Valencia’s reserves team between the years of 2021 and 2023. He became Valencia’s youngest centre-back in the year 2022 and has also played for Spain at various youth levels.

He is primarily deployed as a right-sided centre-back but has also featured on the left and at right-back. While naturally right-footed, he is comfortable using both feet, particularly in distribution, making him a flexible option in various defensive setups. In the 2023/24 La Liga season, Mosquera started 37 out of 38 matches for Valencia, demonstrating reliability and composure despite his age. Although he scored just once, the coaching staff identified set-pieces as an area where he could develop.
Across all competitions, his record stood at 90 appearances, one goal, and no assists—figures that reflect his role as a disciplined and defense-first player. Arsenal entered advanced talks to finalize the transfer, with the player’s valuation placed at around £17 million. As per La Liga regulations, Mosquera’s contract includes a release clause, which sources estimated at €20 million (£17 million), though some reports suggested it could be closer to €25 million (£21 million).
