Arkansas Senator Matt McKee has recently faced intense backlash and condemnation after making a highly offensive comment toward a witness during a hearing on SB199, a bill aimed at limiting gender-affirming care for minors in the state.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, McKee can be seen asking Gwendolyn Herzig, a transgender pharmacist who testified against the bill, if she has a “p*nis.”

At that time, Herzig had shared her personal experiences as a trans native and healthcare worker who provides care to trans people during the hearing, but her testimony was dismissed by some GOP lawmakers who claimed to have more knowledge on the matter than her.

Who is Matt McKee?
Matt McKee is an American politician currently serving as a Republican senator of the 6th district of the Arkansas Senate. He has been in the news because he is currently under severe criticism for making a transphobic comment against a transgender pharmacist.
Born in Gunnison, Colorado, he later relocated to Hot Springs in 2002. He holds a license as a residential remodeler and resides in Pearcy with his wife Nikki and their four daughters. He and his family are active members of the 70 West Church of Christ in Hot Springs.
His career
Senator Matt McKee defeated Bill Sample in the 2022 Republican primary election for the 6th district of the Arkansas Senate. He subsequently emerged victorious in the general election held in November 2022, defeating Courtney McKee with 69% of the vote. He officially assumed office in 2023.
Currently, he serves as the vice-chair of the Joint Energy Committee and as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate City, County and Local Affairs Committee, and the Senate Interim Committee on Children and Youth Committee.
Before his tenure in the Arkansas Senate, Matt McKee served as a Garland County Justice of the Peace for a period from 2009 through 2022. Furthermore, he has also served as the chairman of the Republican Party from 2015 through 2022.
