Arina Ivanovna Rodionova is a Russian-born Australian professional tennis player who was born on December 15, 1989 in Tambov, Russia. Rodionova was born to parents, Ivan Rodionov, and Natalia Rodionova, and she has a sister named Anastasia Rodionova. Arina comes from a tennis-loving family and her sister is also a former Olympian and tennis professional. Her parents’ support and encouragement played a very crucial role in shaping her professional tennis career.

Tennis career and achievements
Arina Rodionova started out her career in professional tennis back in 2004 on the ITF Women’s Circuit in Protvino, Russia. Although she started out playing for Russia, she change her nationality and obtained an Australian citizenship in 2014. As a result, she becoming the country’s no. 1-ranked female player. The following year, on July 27, 2015, she peaked at No. 41 in the doubles rankings. Despite this, she has found much of her success only in the later parts of her career and has certainly proven to be a late bloomer.
Her breakout season came only in 2023, when she reached the 10 ITF Pro Circuit finals and won seven titles aged 33. Earlier this year, on January 29, 2024, she reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 101 after reaching world No. 105 at the beginning of the season.
However, her recent victory at the Thailand Open in Hua Hin pushed her to a career-high ranking of No. 96. As a result, she has now become the oldest player to feature in the top 100 rankings in tennis at the prime age of 34. As it stands, she has won 15 ITF singles titles and 42 doubles titles.
Marriage and husband
Arina Rodionova tied the knot with Tyrone Vickery in 2015. Tyrone is a professional football player on the AFL team.
Tennis Australia controversial stance
Arina Rodionova was recently embroiled in a controversy with Tennis Australia after the latter downplayed her contributions despite her outstanding achievements and dedication to Australian tennis. The situation got out of hand when the organization denied her a wildcard entry to the Australian Open 2024. Arina outrightly expressed her disappointment and felt that her accomplishments did not receive the recognition they deserved. And she was right to do so as she was unfairly denied despite her on-court achievements and her no. 1 status in the country.
